Author: Mayer, J.D., Salovey, P. & Caruso, D.R.
Year: 2002
Description: The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso emotional Intelligence Test- Youth Research Version (MSCEIT-YRV) is designed to assess emotional intelligence among pre-adolescents and adolescents (ages 10-18 years). The MSCEIT-YRV measures the capacity to reason using feelings, and the capacity to enhance thought with feelings. The MSCEIT-YRV is an ability based scale that measures how well people perform tasks and solve emotional problems, rather than a self-report of one’s emotional skills. Uses the Four-Branch model of EI:

  • Perceiving emotions
  • Facilitating thought
  • Understanding emotions
  • Managing emotions

The MSCEIT-YRV was originally designed to be a research tool. For this reason, the MSCEIT-YRV is not a diagnostic tool. MHS recommend it be used as part of a larger evaluation process together with other assessment methods and collateral information.

The MSCEIT-YRV is ONLY available for online administration and scoring through MHS Scoring Service.
