Foster, R., Leland, H., Nihira, K., & Shellhaas, M.

1975, 1992

The American Association on Mental Deficiency (AAMD) - Adaptive Behaviour Scale assesses the adaptive behaviour of children who are being evaluated for mental retardation, autism, and/or behaviour disorders. It is divided into two parts: part one features 9 behaviour domains and evaluates adaptive behaviours considered important to personal responsibility and independent living; part two features 7 behaviour domains and assesses social adaptations and maladaptive behaviour. It helps differentiate and diagnose children manifesting adaptive behaviour deficits, those requiring special education assistance, and those who can manage in a regular classroom.
